Company Manifesto

The essence of all new writing theatre companies is to support every facet of new theatre and Upstage Left is no different.  We believe in aiding new plays and in particular new writers.  We recognise that there are a great many unsigned or unrecognised (yet highly skilled) writers throughout the UK.  Upstage Left aims to offer those writers a chance to have their work produced and viewed by the public.  One of our primary functions is to become a place for playwrights and authors to bring their thoughts and ideas, for furthering and advice with the chance to eventually join with Upstage Left’s creative team and see their work come to life.

Though the company has it’s own writers we are in no way limited to just producing our own work.  Upstage Left will produce at least one play by another writer or creative partnership per year.  This includes a tour of Lincolnshire’s various venues and access to full consultation, support and financial aid from the company.  We do not buy plays; we come to a financial agreement with the author / playwright to be the first to produce their work.  What they do with that opportunity and anything afterwards is entirely up to their own discretion.

On the whole, Upstage Left is keen to produce work of varying styles and themes.  We are a company of diverse taste and are interested in all types of theatre and performance.  Over the next year we will produce firstly a naturalistic show dealing with a serious theme.  We are then moving on to a black comedy in late summer and finally, in the autumn we are proud to present ‘Loud Mouse’ productions, a duo from Leeds who produce their own brand of physically diverse clowning.

We are still in the early stages of our life as companies go, but the company’s founders are extremely committed to new writing and the production of strong varied theatre, with our ever growing network of performers we are attempting to bring the cream of the UK’s unrecognised writers into the public eye.

If you are interested in our work, have any questions or would like further information please follow the web site to the ‘Contact Us’ page.  We look forward to hearing from you.
